Square-Enix keeps a file called metadata.xml in your saves directory (My Documents Square Enix FINAL FANTASY VII user_?????). This file contains timestamp information to assist with syncing and a checksum of your save data.
A few of us who own FFVII are having an issue with our cloud saves missing/deleted and our profile being blank. I'm guessing this is due to a 'patch' for FFVII that has been released today. I'm using 'patch' because each time I start up the FFVII launcher, nothing patches and it says my game is up to date. The connection tests OK under Network Settings.
I have also tried running the launcher as an admin, and still no luck. So far we have not received any updates from SE custom service regarding this issue. Any kind of reply would be much appreciated. Also broken for me, there is no chance in hell I am about to attempt my fight with the Diamond WEAPON without the ability to save first.
It's not like it's walking towards Midgar or anything and I can just go do something else. After reading many posts scattered throughout the past year + about issues with the saving system I highly doubt that this will be fixed, but for the love of god - Square, please do something about this. It's unethical to do this to customers who are faithful enough to purchase the game from you (many for a second or third time) rather than just torrenting it. Considering getting a playstation emulator and using that to play the game. I will jsutify it by the fact that I paid for this pc download, and the save game feature on top of the character booster service doesnt work at all.
Yet another greedy company trying to make a quick buck by screwing its customers. Its beyond time for people to stop putting up with this and finding other alternatives to paying for.
service for broken products. And it wont stop until EVERYONE stops buying games.
Ironically even though the game keeps saying that the cloud service isnt working, its still allowing me to load my save game. At leats for now, no telling how long that will last. I doubt thgis is an error on the users end, I believe its an error with their service.
We have recently updated the game to implement a new feature allowing you to turn Cloud Saving on and off. The update will happen automatically when you open the game launcher (while connected), and the option to change your Cloud Saving setting will be in the launcher's Network Settings panel.
However, please note that, once the game is updated, if Cloud Saving is switched off, uninstalling the game at any time will automatically delete any saved games stored locally on your computer's hard drive. If you wish to uninstall the game and keep your saved games, please back them up to another location on your hard drive.
Your local save can be found in the Documents Square Enix FINAL FANTASY VII folder of your Windows user profile. Alternatively, if you have Cloud Saving switched on, your saved games will continue to be stored online and won't be affected by uninstallation. The update also includes a Cloud Saving synchronisation progress notification, so you'll be able to clearly see when the game is synchronising with the Cloud server. Additionally, there is also now a Steam version of FINAL FANTASY VII (which is identical to the Square Enix Store version); anybody purchasing the Steam version of the game and logging in with an existing account will be able to access any Cloud Saves that have already been created with the Square Enix Store version. I got this too, but we're all having the same issues. We have recently updated the game to implement a new feature allowing you to turn Cloud Saving on and off. The update will happen automatically when you open the game launcher (while connected), and the option to change your Cloud Saving setting will be in the launcher's Network Settings panel. Where do I download this supposed 'update'? Every time I run the launcher, it says my game is up to date, but I'm still running 1.0.7 while Steam users have 1.0.8 Steam.
I just backspaced a bunch of four-letter words, but I AM LIVID. What's the flippin deal here SE?
I bought your PC version back in August of 2012 and then got screwed out of it after my harddrive failed and had to reinstall everything, got the bird from Digital River and your support department telling me I cannot redownload FFVII. I said hell with it.
Two days ago, I bought the same version I bought in 2012 through Steam. Instead of it simply letting me log into my NA account which has all of my other registered Square-Enix titles, it forces me to sign up under a different account? Great, now I have both an NA and an EU account. I heard that both accounts were being merged, so I thought not a big deal.
Fast forward a few hours later and I log off of my desktop computer and install FFVII via Steam onto my laptop so I can play it at the brother in laws house. Oddly enough, after installing and firing up the game at his place it pulls my old cloud save data from 2012. What in the hell is going on here?
For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to make FFVII use a specific profile. My desktop is using the newly created EU account and my laptop is using my NA account. I DON'T WANT AN EU ACCOUNT! Get this squared away damnit, this is really pissing me off! I have the same problem.
But i found out that if you previously signed in under another website like Facebook it can connect to the other profile. Here's my example. When i sign into my profile it ends up being the other profile (not this one), but since before this occured i could sign in using Facebook because i connected the account with this one and now the only way i can access this account is to sign in using Facebook.
I tried to get help from their support, but they ended up somehow mistaking this problem for a forgotten password problem. I have felt your pain, but hopefully it works out for you. Seriously, with a disaterous release of this game you'd think they'd save face and keep it working. I just wanted to jump back into things and finish my progress but I have to wait 3-5m in between loads and saves because of 'Failed to Sync Save Files, Your Progression Will Only Be Saved Locally'. I'm halway tempted to to go buy the steam version but then again why would I want to give more money to a company that craps over a classic like this.
My issue is that 'continue' is greyed out and after I got into the game the save files are greyed. What works for me is waiting. It takes roughly 3-5 minutes. Although, conitue never un-greyed it just eventually let me in. I have looked around a bit and read some thing. Not sure if it's get solved for you but I will write down those I've found CNIX SELF 'Please note that you can have game saves stored locally on your computer instead of the cloud. We can suggest you ensure that the game is not allowed to access the internet and you should still be able to play.'
Of course, if you're save is on the cloud alone, you're in a bit of a problem. But if you encounter the game not saving in future, try switching off your connection in stead of waiting for the response to the server to time out. I hope this helps anyone still having problems, and helps if there are any more server problems in the future. Henry The green light isnt exactly accurate. To synch properly, make sure to add final fantasy 7 to the list of exception to the firewall. Resynch again and check the website to make sure its updated. I have to disconnect from my internet and no be able to talk with friends on Skype, Ventrilo etc.
Or playing another game meanwhile as when you press TAB+ALT. And you choose another game it will pause. So I will never be able to play to a save and save it there as I won't save cause It can't find the Claud database.
I need to play to i recive the 'Was saved. ' something in the top left corner? I thought when I bhought this game. IT WOULD BE AWESOME. I'm thinkin about making a refund as you got 12 days on you. I guess I will do that and buy the Game from a store and play FOR.ING FUN and not.ing error's and claud saving problem! It is also broken for me.
I hope to see things fixed and ideally a response from SE with an update. This is the third time I've bought this game and I will refuse to buy SE games in future on principle if this is what they call customer service. I will also recommend that others don't buy their games as loudly as I can. 72 hours of silence apart from a nonsensical post that completely ignored issues almost as if they haven't read anyone's posts is completely unacceptable directly after the launch of a game via a new platform and this needs to be resolved ASAP.

I know the problem on how to solve the Cloud save. You don't have to do anything with firework or that but Incase. You can do it. I had problems since I installed Final Fantasy 7 on my computer. I was starting to rage and almost giving up but I notice a thing:) When you start the game. Make sure just you are connected to the internet!
Play the game and go to the menu. When you are in the MENU you will notice in the top left corner Downloading Saved Files. You wait for max 2 min.
I'm not sure if it takes 30 seconds, 1 min och 2 min or so. But never more than 5 min! Think like this. You need to download the files and the cloud are possibly very slow and it takes even longer time.
Image you downloading a file that you download with 1kb/s. Ofc it will take some time. When you are in the MENU so just wait! Just wait for the downloading the saves! PLEASE JUST WAIT. You can ALT+TAB and check facebook or watch a little video and such and ALT+TAB back and you will be able to load. You need to do this aswell when you need to save.
I have been doing this for like 3 days and always worked:) I HOPE IT WORKS FOR YOU Step by Step Starting Menu 1. Start you game and make sure the 'Test' thing and that you have a connection work =) 2. Once you start just skip to the start menu or wait for the video's to be done (your choose) 3. It will says Downloading Synced Games or whatever.
Just wait and let it 'Download' them! ALT+TAB and look facebook or something else or wait for the loading saves to be downloaded. When about 30 seconds to 120 seconds have passed you should be able to press Load or save! Step by Step Saving In-game 1.
Find a saving spot or go to the world map. Press the Menu key and go to Save 3. Once you are in the save it will say Loading Synced Games or whatever;) 4.
ALT+TAB and look facebook or something else or wait for the loading saves to be downloaded. Wait 30-120 seconds have passed and save the game. Seems like it will never be fixed. It's time to start the game from the beginning!:( I know the problem on how to solve the Cloud save. You don't have to do anything with firework or that but Incase. You can do it. I had problems since I installed Final Fantasy 7 on my computer.

Hi everyone, After deciding whether to post this last night I've decided to now since it hasn't been fixed. The following is what fixed my problem after I couldn't get cloud to synch and couldn't find the save file in%userprofile%/My Documents/Square Enix/User####/.ff7 Note: I understand cloud saving doesn't work in the main menu but it works when you're actually playing the game. Windows 7 & 8 A). Check to see if you have a local save on your computer. Press the Windows key (Between the Left Ctrl and Alt buttons) at the same time as pressing the E key, this should open up Windows Explorer. In the address bar (Where it says Computer) copy and paste this -%userprofile%/My Documents/Square Enix/ Network - Make sure Use Cloud Saving is ticked. Start the game and wait for that dreaded message of failure to synch Start a new game and play through till the first save point (located next to the ladder before the first Reactor) READ THIS NEXT PART CAREFULLY AND PAY ATTENTION OR YOU'LL SCREW YOUR SAVE UP Goto menu and choose a new save location that you haven't used E.G.
Under no circumstances Save under the same slot as your original save that you're trying to get back. (You have been warned and I'll take no responsibility if you lose your save. What should happen next is it should save but at the same time it will also synch your other save back to your machine. Repeat Step A to make sure your save is now located there along with your original and BACKUP BOTH FILES TO ANOTHER LOCATION C) TURN OFF THE AWFUL CLOUD SAVING. By now you should have your save back after the previous step along with a new slot (this may not appear at first but might synch properly later after another save.) Go back into Settings on the launcher and untick Cloud Saving. Launch game and enjoy. I can confirm that the 'Remote Sync Status' is now working as expected.
To test, you can open the game launcher, click on the Network tab, then click the Test button. The status check is extremely quick. I purchased the game for $6 on Father's Day and have game saves totaling 15 hours of time. All of the cloud sync issues started on July 2nd. I don't know about you guys, but I think the problem started once FFVII for PC was released on Steam.
I think their Sync servers have been getting SLAMMED because it is a top selling game on Steam - It is clear that Square-Enix did not plan for appropriate server network capacity on this game release. I opened a support ticket with Square-Enix on Friday and have YET to hear back from them via phone or email, or anything for that matter. At least everything is working now. But I will have to seriously consider purchasing digital download games in the future. When I want to play a game, I just want to PLAY THE GAME.
Call me old fashion, but I should be able to pop a game disc in my PC or console and press start on a controller. I shouldn't have to log in with a password, wait for DRM verification, then wait for my save file to sync with the online servers BEFORE I can actually start playing. And if my game cannot sync with the cloud, I shouldn't be locked out of my purchase. @Joseph I imagine you're right about their servers getting slammed with traffic, given how well it appears to be doing on steam. Although, I must say that I got the game back in September (2012), and even then sometimes it took a few minutes to sync save files, which is kinda silly for a few 64kb files. Other times it would be update in less than a second.
But the 'Cloud Saving synchronisation progress notification' that should be in the update would at least make me feel better. Other than that, from the wording it should be updated already, but even I'm still on v1.0.7. The ability to turn cloud saving off should (in a way) fix the time to sync issue, but we need to get the update to have the ability to do so. The other option is for Square to get the appropriate server power to sync said files at a convenient speed. I haven't seriously played in the last month or two but I never had an instance where it never connected, it just took a while sometimes. We have recently updated the game to implement a new feature allowing you to turn Cloud Saving on and off. Thank you, Square Enix Customer Service 'But don't forget that while your games may still be saved on our servers upon un installing the game chances are you will not be able to re-install due to the horrible policies we have put in place to punish our customers for supporting our game'.
Square Enix. This is the second thread I have started about this problem.
A bunch of us have an issue with Final Fantasy VII not updating to the new version which allows you to disable cloud saves. We have uninstalled, reinstalled, ran as admin, logged out and back in with no change. We start the launcher, which says everything is up to date. Yet when we go to Network Options, there is no option to disable could saves. The only response we have received in this forum has been a canned response that has NO value whatsoever.
We are paying customers whos problems have been ignored here. We need an OFFICIAL response to our questions, and how to patch our game. The silence and lack of assistance has gone on long enough. Same thing happened for me but cloud saves were.disabled. It happened after I edited the file with a savegame editor. The savegame editor is NOT responsible. Here is a reproduction case:.
Close the game AND the launcher. Edit a savegame (with Jenova or Black Chocobo, or just swap two savegames).
Start the launcher - it deletes the savegame This is likely a severe bug in the cloud synchronization routine. I bet the local files are incorrectly considered to be obsolete in respect to the cloud, and therefore deleted since they're expected to be replaced by up-to-date versions from the cloud. That or a lazy error handling. Anyway the routine still takes place when cloud saves are disabled. It took Square-Enix months to finally get a version without those stupid cloud saves and they are still poisoning us now by deleting our saves?
I just lost hours of game since my last backup. How long will we have to wait to play without worrying about our savegames and is it your definition of QA? Can someone please confirm for me FOR A FACT whether you can earn Achievements without Cloud Saving turned on? After the most recent update, my saved games via Cloud Saving and Achievements suddenly disappeared. I didn't realize you could turn Cloud Saving off. Thankfully my saved games were also on my harddrive (I have sense backed them up just in case, can someone tell me exactly what file represents your saved game? And which of these should be copied to back it up?
I assume it's just 'save00.ff7' in the 'user' folder). Now however, my Achievements are back and my profile is back to normal, even though I hadn't turned Cloud Saving back on. I just checked the box to turn Cloud Saving back on this minute, but when it I hit the 'test' button, it comes back negative. Anyway, the MAIN reason I'm playing this is to earn Achievements, that was the main motivator to start playing this version.
I want to know if you can earn the Achievements while playing without Cloud Saving, and whether your online Square Enix.com profile will be updated to reflect them (I have the Square Enix store version) or not. Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer my question. Update: Quick edit, turns out that my online profile has not been restored.
However the Achievements I've gotten still show up when I select 'Achievements' in the main launcher menu (With the 'Play, Achievements, Settings, View Online Profile' buttons). I also saw a dialog that says your online profile will not update unless Cloud Saving is on. I can confirm that the 'Remote Sync Status' is now working as expected.

I just bought this game on Steam and I'm getting this. Judging by the posts in this thread, this appears to be a problem that has been going on for along time and Square Enix therefor has little intention of fixing it. This isn't the game company I remember.
Okay, so this is more my fault than anything, but my laptop has very limited space, so I put FFVII on a 16G flashdrive. I put the installer and.bin files, the save files from My Documents (a copy still is there if for some reason that should matter), and all of the data that the game actually installs on it of course. But the thing is, when I start it up, the game apparently can't locate the save files. This really irritated me, but I started a new file up anyway, just to see if it will at least work. Everything operates very smoothly until Cloud chases after Barret and the soldiers jump out in front of him.
The screen goes black and spins into the battle screen, but the battle doesn't start. The music keeps playing but the screen stays black. Then I get an error message saying an unknown exception has occurred.
How can I address these 2 issues?
Hi everyone, this post is an attempt to condense the installation method for FF7 on Windows 7 64 to a single thread post, as when I recently did this I had to use several websites and download files from multiple locations, so hopefully this will provide a nice concise tutorial on how to enjoy one of the best RPGs of all time on your W7 PC! Important things to note: A couple of points I would like to make before starting this tutorial: - You DO NOT need to diasble UAC in order to get this game to work, we will be modifying the permission for a couple of specific folders only. You DO NOT need to use compatability mode to get this game to work, if anything it makes matters worse. We will be using custom graphics drivers to bring the game up to date with modern technology so no worries there. Below I detail methods for using disc images to boot the game, this I did with images of MY OWN discs which I paid for.
I do not condone the illegal downloading of disc images, and as long as you don't distribute the images of your own discs then your conscience is clean. Optional Preparation Step Create Disc Images: This step is not necessary but it will make your life easier, not to mention reducing wear and tear on your FF7 discs (which are definitely getting more valuable these days.). It will also reduce loading times, eliminate drive noise and make FMVs play more smoothly. What you want to do is make images of your original game discs: Download and install a program called ImgBurn.
Its a great tool and will allow you to make images of your discs, and it's completely free! Pop your installation disc into your computer, open ImgBurn and select 'Create Image File from Disc', then select a directory for the image file to be placed in (completely up to you) and save the file in.bin/.cue format. Give it a minute and you'll have an image of that disc in the directory you selected, repeat this for the other three discs. Next, you'll want to download and install Daemon Tools Lite which is also free to non-commercial users (i.e. You), you'll need to restart to complete installation.
The program should automatically set up a virtual drive for you - now, if you don't have a clue what I'm talking about then I suggest you google it and do a bit of research because I don't have the time to explain it all here. So go ahead and mount the installation disc once Daemon Tools has installed and move onto step 1. Step 1 Initial Installation: Get all your discs together, and insert the Installation disc into your DVD drive (or mount your image of the installation disc onto your virtual drive if you have ripped your discs to images - see optional step above). Run the setup program. This is all pretty self-explanatory, but: PLEASE NOTE - you must choose maximum installation when prompted as this will install all the game files to your computer which is necessary fpr patching later. Don't worry, the game's not that big by today's standards. Furthermore, DO NOT install any of the graphics drivers that come on the disc (i.e.
DX5 and DirectShow), these will likely bugger your existing graphics drivers and we will be patching the game later with new ones anyway to allow it to play on modern systems. Step 2 Folder Permissions: The next step is to change the permissions for the FF7 installation folder to allow the game to write its own files. The path for the installation (assuming you didn't change it in the installer) is: 'C: Program Files(x86) Square Soft, Inc Final Fantasy VII' Right click this folder and select properties. Switch to the security tab and select 'Advanced'. Click on 'Change Permissions', then click on Users( Name of your computer/Users) which says 'Read and Execute' and then 'Edit', click on the full control box and ticks should appear in all the boxes below, like this: There should now be a line which says Users have Full Control! Step 3 Official Patch v1.02: Next on the agenda is to patch the game to v1.02 with the official patch which can be found. Installation is very easy, simply extract all the files in the archive into your FF7 installation folder, selecting to overwrite any files as necessary.
Step 4 Custom Graphics Drivers: This is the big one, we're going to install a user-made patch which allows modern systems to render the game using OpenGL. Download file, and extract all the contents into your FF7 installation directory, again, overwriting any files. Note - this file is version 0.7.11b of the driver, and at the time of writing is the most recent. It's unlikely there'll be any more revisions as I don't believe there are any issues with this one.
Next, run the FF7Config.exe file. You will be presented with a congifuration utility for the game, select Graphics at the top.
In the 'Renderer' drop-box, select Custom Driver (if this option isn't present then you haven't changed the security settings for the folder properly). You should get a pop-up box saying you've passed some test, you can now click OK to close.
Next, open the file ff7opengl.cfg file using Notepad. Yes, the vanilla version of the game is working beautifully with no issues having followed your tutorial. Having installed the mod i found out it crashes (this doesnt affect the vanilla game, different.exe and configuration, the mod has different files contained in the data folder of the game) just like the original did.
In my desperate state, i thought about repeating the whole process, applying opengl and changing the properties of the folder so i could select custom driver in the mod's configuration just like i did in the vanilla, but im asking for your help before i go doing crazy stuff like that. Thanks for taking the time to reply:). Well all the properties seem right, however, when changing the properties to the mod folder, one User option cant be changed and remains special, never giving me full control.
Not sure if that matters really. Another thought was that it wont find the Custom Driver since all OpenGl files and such where dropped in Final Fantasy VII folder and not the mod folder which is in Final Fantasy VII/data/ffprp.Should i apply the OpenGl to the ffprp folder as well? Thanks again for helping, i really wish there were more kind, helpfull people like you in the internet ^^ Edit- Turns out applying OpenGl to the mod folder solved it. Didnt know why i couldnt think of that earlier:/ Again Thanks For everything ^^. Similar help and support threads Thread Forum So im having this problem trying to run Final Fantasy 7 on my build 7000. Any help is appreciated.
When i click the ff7.exe the screen goes black for about 2 seconds, then it comes back and says ff7.exe is not responding. Really pissen me off. Tried compatibility mode.
Tried the xp patch running. Gaming Steam version of Final Fantasy 7 has 'Cloud Saves'. Seriously, it's FF7. If you hated it, you're not going to like it any more now. If you loved it, you've probably already bought this.
